Malt* is a multifunctional project contributing to the rehabilitation of an old derelict industrial site in the heart of the Malines railway station area. A challenge taken up with enthusiasm and pride by CODIC, combining a historic architecture with the new aspirations of tomorrow’s world.
Thanks to the integration and the sustainable reconversion of the “Socaré” building, the project shows a strong identity keeping its industrial character in memory of the history of the site. Located along the canal linking Louvain to the Dyle river, it housed in the past a malt production plant and a rubber factory, then a non-iron metal pressing factory. After the bankruptcy in 2013 of Inofer, its last occupant, the site was abandoned.
This new important project will allow to create 17,900 m² of office areas and 3,700 m² of housing in a green and low traffic area. The site will be accessible from the neighbouring areas and will receive integrated services such as a café, a restaurant and a co-working area. With its Malt project, CODIC demonstrates all its know-how in transforming a derelict industrial site into economic and social added value for an entire region.
